What is QuizCommons?
A free, open, credited database of quiz questions, plus a live game room for playing them with other quizzers online — no Zoom link, no separate scoring spreadsheet.
Is it really free?
Yes, always. QuizCommons is donation-funded, not subscription-funded — playing, browsing, and contributing questions all stay free.
What formats can I play?
MIMIR is live today — 2 to 16 players, direct-then-pass questions, a shared scorecard, with optional teams. Bounce, Rounders, QLL/MQL, and Play by Self are scoped and show up in the format picker, but their engines aren't built yet, so they're not playable yet. Jeopardy and Quiz Bowl are still being scoped.
Do I need a reader?
No — by default, players verify each other's answers by vote. Toggle "Moderated" when starting a game if you'd rather have a dedicated reader judge answers, and invite one from the lobby the same way you'd invite a player.
Can I play without signing up?
Not yet — games currently require an account. Guest play (no sign-up required) is on the roadmap.
Where do the questions come from?
Contributed by quizzers, clubs, and leagues, always credited to whoever wrote them, and reviewed by an editor before they go public. You can contribute your own from your account.
Can I withdraw a question I contributed?
Yes — email hello@quizcommons.org and we'll remove it going forward. This can't undo copies already made by others under the open licence before withdrawal.
Does QuizCommons have video calling?
It's planned — the game room is built around having one, but the live video integration itself isn't connected yet.
